OVR PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We are happy to welcome you and your family to Overland Elementary. Our experienced staff of teachers is dedicated to providing every child with many valuable educational opportunities. We look forward to working with you to maintain a positive home-school partnership.
The purpose of this message is to provide parents with some of the necessary information regarding the operation of Overland School. Our Overland Elementary School Handbook/Calendar contains the code of student conduct, weapons policy, Stop and Think social skills, student dress code, school bus conduct and other school information. Please keep the calendar as a reference for SSD#1 Policies. It also contains the six day school schedule and other important dates. The calendars are limited to one per family. If you do not receive one, please stop by the office and we will gladly give one to you. Please call if you have questions or concerns about the Handbook or this letter.
The school office hours are from 8:00AM to 3:45PM. Please feel free to call, or schedule appointments with me or a teacher. Kelley Kizzire is the school secretary and Ryan Allen is the principal. Teachers are busy providing valuable learning experiences for your children during school hours and we will not take them out of class for phone calls. However, we will relay messages. The best time to reach a teacher would be before or after school. The number is 352-3260.
We welcome visits to the school. We do ask that you always check in through the office and obtain a pass. All doors except for the office doors remain locked during school hours. If you need to pick up your child, please come to the office. We do require a signature on our student release form when a student leaves school. We will only release a child to parents, or people listed on the student registration form on file in the office. To ensure your child’s safety, identification may be required. Students will not be allowed to walk home or leave the building without an adult signing them out when classes are in session.
Our supervised playground is open for students at 8:25AM. Please do not send your children to school or drop them off earlier than 8:25AM unless they enter the school building immediately to participate in our school breakfast. Our school breakfast program begins at 8:20AM. Students may enter by the office door. The cost of a student breakfast is $1.55.
Kindergarten breakfast will begin at 9:15. Kindergarten students will need to enter the building and go directly to the cafeteria. School for Kindergarten students will begin at 9:30.
School lunches are $2.85 per day. Students coming to school without their lunch money will be permitted to use the office phone from 8:50-9:20AM daily to call home. If parents cannot be reached, Overland School will loan the student money. Reimbursement is needed from the parents on the next school day.
Our procedure for verifying student absences is as follows. Please phone us at 352-3260 between the hours of 7:30-9:00AM to let us know that your child will not be in school. If we do not hear from you, someone from the office will call you first at home, or if necessary, at work between 9:00AM and 10:00AM to verify your child’s absence. We feel your child’s attendance is extremely important for educational growth. This procedure also ensures that if, for any reason, you have sent your child to school and he/she did not arrive we will know immediately and take appropriate action.
We must have a medical release from the physician and the parent before we can dispense medication to students. We cannot administer any medicine without a medical release. All medication is stored in a secure cabinet in the office. Please do not send medication to school with your child unless you send a signed release. We have forms in the office and most local doctor’s offices have forms. This procedure for medication applies to aspirin, cough drops, cough syrup and other over the counter medications. Please do not send these to school with your child unless you also send a medication release.
The faculty and staff of Overland Elementary School look forward to working with you to provide a rewarding, positive educational experience for your child.
Mr. Ryan Allen, Principal
