Student Conduct

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS

BE SAFE  BE RESPECTFUL   BE RESPONSIBLE  BE A READER

The faculty and staff at Overland are committed to creating a nurturing environment  where students will be successful learners. Our mission is for all students to improve in math problem solving, reading comprehension, and in writing.

The faculty and staff at Overland Elementary believe students learn best in a positive climate.  We also wish to encourage the development of positive student self esteem so students are able to treat fellow students, staff, and teachers with the respect and consideration all people expect and need.  Rules, expectations, and consequences have been explained in detail for all Overland students.  All discipline referrals will follow guidelines described in Sweetwater School District #1 Policy -JFC.

We have adopted  a Positive Behavior Support approach to prevent minor and major misbehaviors. PBS is a comprehensive and proactive approach to discipline for behavior support and teaching social skills. We will actively teach and acknowledge expected behaviors and monitor office referrals to gauge improvement over the course of the year. We do know if students are in the classroom, they will be learning. All students will learn Stop and Think Social Skills in the classroom and use those skills in other areas of the school including the lunchroom, playground, and on the bus.

DRESS CODE

To promote our drug free school environment, students will not be allowed to wear shirts advertising alcohol or tobacco or shirts with suggestive messages.  Older students in grades 1-4 will need to dress in t-shirts or shirts that cover the upper arms or midriff.  Muscle t-shirts, tank tops, or see through shirts will not be permitted in school.  Sleeveless team jerseys are fine if a t-shirt is worn underneath the jersey. If students come to school in clothing that is inappropriate according to Sweetwater County School District #1 Policy-JFCA, we will phone home and ask for appropriate school clothes to be brought to school for your child.  If parents cannot be reached,  students will need to wear their shirts inside out or will have clean clothes provided for them.

We encourage parents to be aware of the weather conditions and send students to school with appropriate clothing.  All recesses are outside unless the temperature including wind chill is below zero.

BICYCLE RIDING/SKATEBOARDS, ROLLER BLADES, HEELIES, CANDY, GUM, TOYS, and GAME CARDS.

Bicycles may be ridden to Overland School and left in provided bike racks.  Bikes,  skateboards and roller blades may not be ridden on the playground between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM.  The school will not be responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen bicycles.  It is best if students lock their bicycles to the bicycle rack. Students will not be allowed to  wear heelies during school hours.

We also ask students to leave all  candy, gum, toys (Game Boys, I Pods, etc.), game cards at home unless they are bringing or using these items with teacher permission.
